    Licensing

Today I went to a Sri Lankan hospital (branded hospital with a BIG name on it) and was talking about how we can help to achive a better-civilized atmosphere for the hospital environment.

Best thing is one of the professors who was in the meeting room was asking us that are we going to license the whole of Sri Lanka. Which I felt that the person incharge of IT was bluffing infront of all when asked about the licensing requirement.

They really don't appreciate the intellectual property - I was thinking alone what if this hospital doctors or professors found a cure for HIV and how they will keep their medicine or what ever or how much will they sell the medicine.

And the more intelligent CFO and FM was revealing the truth and suddenly we saw a "pinch" from the IT Manager....lol (that is really stupid and the most un-professional person I saw in my life).

In the end they agreed to be lawful and asked for a software asset management coming down from the IT department. Comparing to the professionals from Singapore - this sucks

Why people think about Lotus Notes as a e-mail backbone ?

One customer I met today was telling me, that there is enough compression reports on the web on Lotus vs Exchange with Lotus gaining the high side but none for Exchange Microsoft. Actually she was telling me that they get better TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) on Lotus rather than from Exchange from Microsoft.

I was telling my self "WOW !!! How Lotus have adopted MSFT initiative to sell there own products". Yes I know there is a quite a bit of marketing involved in the propaganda. But people always read on the bullshit?

Before pulling out some of the articles which I have from Microsoft on Exchange vs Lotus (which includes TCO, ROI and the features) I went through the articles which was published in the web by using http://www.live.com - alright when I say like that people might think "ohh a MS addiction" - not really I know for a fact the speeds with the so called Google and WWW.LIVE.COM and which is faster and indexed. (different topic)

OK the fact is the Lotus Domino compares the TCO by comparing the Lotus Domino server only. In my words they don't have to have any other software or operating system.

i.e. Lotus Domino Server cost / mailboxes (which is WRONG)

In a layman terms if your organization have 25 desktop machines and one server, how to calculate the TCO is to get,

Operating system cost + Office application cost + CAL's cost + Server services cost / the head count
